Second Annual Tree Giveaway

Aside

On Sunday May 20, 2012 the Four Borough Neighborhood Preservation Alliance Foundation held their second annual tree giveaway. The event took place in MacDonald park, located in Forest Hill, Queens. Toyota as it’s lead sponsor, the Four Borough Neighborhood Preservation Alliance Foundation teamed up with MillionTreesNYC and New York Restoration Project (NYRP) to unfold this event. NYRP started these environmental giveaways in 2008, and til this day has coordinated over fifty events. Trees were about eight feet tall, and to donate one you had to agree with the terms and conditions. It was a beautiful day and over one hundred people attended.

It was a beautiful day at the Tree Giveaway. This lady shades herself from the sun by using the trees that was free for the public to take. The type of trees offered were Eastern Redbud, Florida Dogwood, , Bald Cypress, Northern Red Oak, Japanese Maple, etc.

It was also confusing to most people because residence thought that they can just pick up the tree and leave. Confusion sparked the area, but it took them a while to find out that the line…was right behind them

Confused tree lovers did not know how to obtain a tree!

The phrase “The early bird catches the worm” couldn’t be more right. People who arrived later on, was left with the trees that was either half dead or too big to carry. One lady tried to actually steal a beautiful tree that was already reserved. She couldn’t be blamed, because the tree she tried to steal, made the other trees look like…shit basically.

Not many trees were left around the ending of the event. "The Chinese Red Tree" were the first to go. The one in this photo was actually reserved for somebody, where a lady try to get away with it.

The event was a great success and almost all trees were given up for adoption. I’m Jordan Thomas, and this is OFWGKTA_Jordan News.

Jim Groom’s Archiving Reflection Post

Jim Groom talks about the importance or archive. I found his lecture  extremely useful because he tells a lot about the future of technology. First off, archive is like any of your work stored somewhere. It can be as simple as a notebook or as advance as the internet. If I googled my name “Jordany Thomas”, it will yake a while considering I’m a nobody, but something about me would pop up (My facebook page for an example).  He brought up the wayback machine, which is a website which you can use to look at websites the way they used to look which I found neat. I loved his presentation and he made a lot good points. As for the ending of this semester, I will keep my internet archives. I love doing audio assignments, so I will be using soundcloud a lot. I may keep this blog to share with my friends and family, plus I am a CT major. I really enjoyed this class. I had a cool professor and friendly classmates. I think I am going to stay in touch with DS106.

DS106 Final Project “Where’s My Money”

I always wanted to experiment with voice over animations, so why not do it with my favorite anime and cartoon. It took a while to get use to iMovie but I managed to figure it out. What I did was a lot of blading, which basically means moving around the footage to match the sound of the auto. Goku, who is Brian in this scenerio owes vegeta, who is Stewie some money. Well. Goku doesn’t exactly come up with the money.

CUNY Weeks 13 to 15 – Final Stretch

I absolutely loved Communication technology course. It was exactly what I thought it would be when I first registered. First off, I got a cool ass teacher, who was recommended to me. Second, the assignments are fun! I got to meet new people throughout the web with DS106, The daily creates were fun, and the assignments rocked. I surely am going to miss this class. Good thing I am a CT major because I have a feeling there is going to be more awesomeness coming my way. The assignment I loved the most was the Xtranormal assignment. I got to partner up with a classmate and we did a reenactment of a south park clip. If I was in charge of the class, there really is much I can change. The class was filled with awesomeness. Only thing I would probably change is making the class longer or more days. I’m definitely  recommended this class and professor to other students. Thanks for the experience Michael.

Web 2.0

” Seven Things You Should Know About Creative Commons”   and What is Web 2.0?” was a pretty long, boring, but interesting topic. From what I read and watched, web 2.0 is suppose to be more approachable for everyone to access. I knew stuff already like Bit-torrent, and all but I learned many knew things. Web 2.0 offers more sync able applications like Amazon, E-bay and Google. Web 2.0 started a whole new way for blogging. Its gives everyone access to create websites to share things like photos and media stuff. Another cool thing about the whole thing, is that Web 2.0 has an open forum for everybody to share their ideas, in my opinion to enhance online media.

Gospel Temple Church Of God: Trayvon Martin

On Sunday April 29, 2012 the Gospel Temple Church Of God held an event in honor of Trayvon Martin, who was killed by a neighborhood watch captain named George Zimmerman in February 26, 2012. The church located at 172 Decatur St., Brooklyn NY, held by Ron Harris

performed a couple Gospel music and had a stand of Skittles and Arizona Ice Tea. They gave Trayvon a moment of silence, sang and danced to gospel music and that was pretty much the end of it. It was an extraordinary event.

Skittles and Ice Tea

Skittles and Ice tea, was placed in front of the church.
